The call for the fire came in around 1:15 p.m. Monday, March 10 for smoke coming from a home on Barnett Hill Road in the Mahopac Falls section of Carmel, said officials with the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
Carmel Police arrived on the scene first and confirmed a visible fire from the home. Arriving fire units found downed powerlines and fire with a heavy concentration of smoke.
While stretching hose lines, calls were put out NYSEG for a crew to kill power to the property, officials said.
There was no one home at the time of the fire and no injuries to firefighters were reported.
The blaze was brought under control within about 20 minutes, the department said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters assisting Mahopac Falls on the scene include Carmel, Mahopac, and Putnam Valley fire departments. Carmel police, EMStar, and Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded.
